We have a winner!
Results are in for Sunday's Giant Pumpkin Growers contest hosted by Hensler Nursery, Hamlet, IN. In the fourth annual contest hosted by Hensler, John Barenie, Griffith, IN won with his 1, 308.0 pounds pumpkin. This year's champion also became the new Indiana state record holder. Barenie's pumpkin beat the previous state previous state record of 1, 273 pounds, held by Roger Howard of Grovertown, IN since 2005.
Other winners included Don Young, Des Moines, IA whose second place pumpkin weighed 1, 159.5 pounds. In third place was Julie Young, Des Moines, IA whose pumpkins weighed 924.5 pounds.
Phyllis Howard, Grovertown, IN who bought a 702.5 pound pumpkin pumpkin to Sunday's competition, came in fourth place.
