Color and Composition in Pastel Painting

Color and Composition in Pastel Painting

Monday, August 7, 2017 to Wednesday, August 9, 2017
9:00am - 4:00pm

In this studio workshop, Kathleen will emphasize the importance of design and value structure, with instruction on developing form through light and shadow. You will understand how to edit information from photos to strengthen your compositions. Explore drawing, proportion, and color through direct observation. While this isn’t a plein air experience, we may go outside to contemplate nature and sketch in charcoal, returning to the studio with some notes on our observations. We’ll compare direct landscape study to what the photograph reveals. Kathleen will demonstrate pastel techniques, including toning backgrounds, on a variety of surfaces. Prior pastel experience is not necessary, but basic drawing skills will be helpful.
