Trip Idea: Plan Your Next Visit to Marshall County

There’s no better way to experience the culture and history of rural Northern Indiana than by hitting the road to travel through the gently rolling countryside.

Connecting the communities throughout Marshall County, the Barn Quilt Trail features a series of large murals painted in a variety of quilt patterns on barns, businesses and public spaces in downtown areas including popular Culver and Plymouth. Self-guided trail maps are available.

Take time to explore the historical side of Marshall County. What will you discover? Some fantastic museums—ranging from the Marshall County Historical Society Museum to the Culver Academies Museum. But our history is also all around us. It’s in the Bourbon Town Pump and the Bremen Water Tower. And we’re happy to share it with you.

For adventure enthusiasts, canoe along a silent lake at dawn while the steam is just lifting from the water. Birdwatch in one of our beautiful parks. Go fishing. Geocache for trinkets and for the sake of adventure. Golf our picturesque and challenging courses. Star Gaze in Indiana’s first Dark-Sky Preserve at Potawatomi Wildlife Park. Swim in Indiana’s second largest natural lake the beautiful Lake Maxinkuckee which shores touch the famous and prestigious Culver Academies.

Our shops offer a small-town approach to quality and customer service. You’ll need more than just a single day to explore an endless variety of distinctive specialty stores, from antique shops to local art galleries.

You’ll be surprised by the dining in Marshall County. Sure, there’s the roadside diner with the best pancakes and great conversation. But there are also five-star gourmet menus to choose from as well.

Overnight accommodations range from bed & breakfasts, to hotels and resorts, including Swan Lake Resort, which is home to both the United States Golf Academy and two of the Indiana National Golf Club’s courses. Accommodations include hotel rooms, log cabins, cottages, and camping facilities.
