Can't Miss out on These Blueberry Treats!

Can't Miss out on These Blueberry Treats!

It’s almost that time of year again! The 51st Marshall County Blueberry Festival kicks off September 1st through the 4th, and I’m sure we’re all ready for the awesome food they have in store.

Now, what’s the Blueberry Festival without blueberries? You can't leave the festival on Monday afternoon without trying something that's blueberry! The best way to celebrate your love for blueberries is to head on over to the homemade blueberry donuts. It’s the first thing I grab at the festival, and it’s usually the last thing I grab before I leave. They’re sweet and crisp on the outside, and warm and delicious on the inside. 7 churches all participate in making these wonderful blueberry donuts for us!

An interesting fact about the making of these donuts is that depending on the weather, each year can be a little different in how many donuts are made. When it’s usually warmer outside there's more donuts that are made, but when it's chilly outside they can't make as many. Why? Well, the hot weather helps the grease melt faster, so that means more blueberry donuts! Another interesting fact about the famous blueberry donuts is that the festival sells about 60,000 donuts each year!! HOLY COW! That’s a lot of donuts we’re eating!

Another favorite blueberry treat the festival has to offer is their amazing blueberry ice cream. If you’ve been walking around the park all day, and are looking to eat something to cool you off, this is the perfect treat for you. This soft served ice cream is something you don’t want to miss out on. It’s a blueberry treat that’s perfect to eat!

If you’re not in the mood to cook dinner at home, head out to the festival and get an order of their steak tips. They come in large portions, so you'll fill up right away. I hear nothing but good things about the festival steak tips, so this might be something you don't want to miss out on.

When life gives you lemons…you make lemon shake ups! Lemon shake ups have to be the most popular drink beverage served at the Blueberry Festival. You see everyone walking around with a lime green/bright yellow cup all weekend long. It gives the perfect taste of lemonade, with just enough sugar. When I was younger my friends and I would drink about 10 lemon shakes up during the whole weekend of Blueberry, no joke! Lemon Shake Ups are a go to at Blueberry.

What other delicious food does the Blueberry Festival have? Well, we can’t forget about the GIANT elephant ears, the ice cold root beer in the silver jug, the bananas dipped in chocolate, and even their walking tacos! Once Labor Day weekend is over I gain about 10 pounds from all the food I ate, and I’m sure all of you are guilty of this too.

People travel from all over the U.S. to attend the Marshall County Blueberry Festival. Family activities, sporting events, unique shopping booths, entertainment, fireworks, and of course the delicious food is what makes this festival spectacular. I’ve been attending this festival since I was a kid, and it’s the one thing that makes Plymouth feel like home.
